Thursday hockey report: West Salem/Bangor turns tables in win over Tomah/Sparta

WEST SALEM — The West Salem/Bangor co-op boys hockey team scored three times in the first period and three more in the second to build a lead that turned into a 6-5 victory over Tomah/Sparta at the Panther Den on Thursday.

The Panthers (3-11) stopped an 11-game losing streak and avenged an 8-2 loss to Tomah/Sparta earlier this season.

West Salem/Bangor opened with a power-play goal and received a four-goal performance from senior Tyler Meyer, who had a hat trick in the second period.

Meyer scored with an assist from Cade Donahue in the first period and gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead with an unassisted goal in the second. Josef Gasper and Aiden Hillyer set up Meyer’s third goal and Terryn Bolan his fourth. When Meyer scored his final goal, the Panthers held a 6-3 lead at the 15-minute, 21-second mark of the second.

Brayden Baures and Donahue also scored for West Salem/Bangor. Meyer and Jaycob Brown set up the Baures goal, which was on a power play and opened the game at 8:11.

Meyer leads the team with 14 goals this season and notched his team-best ninth assist. Bolland and Brown recorded their eighth assists, Donahue his fourth goal and Baures his first.
