CHIPPEWA FALLS — The West Salem/Bangor boys wrestling team collectively scored 300 points to place second to New Richmond at the Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday.
The Catbirds were led by champions Teghan Moore and Trevor Arentz.
Moore, a junior, won the 106-pound bracket and improved his record to 23-2. He won by technical fall and major decision in his final two matches, beating Tomah’s Blake Champlin (26-5) 15-5 in the finals.
Arentz, a senior, is 24-7 after winning at 190. He won all four of his matches by pin, finishing Edgar’s Lucas Stahnke (16-10) at 1:37 in the championship bout. He won each of his first three matches in less than a minute.
West Salem/Bangor also received runner-up finishes from Jarett Plomedahl (14-10, 138 pounds), Nick Griffin (9-7, 157), Caden Anderson (21-8, 175) and Miles Olson (21-10, 215). Jackson Roesler (14-5, 132), Evan Smith (18-8, 165) and Kaiden Stello (14-10, 285) all placed third for the Catbirds.
Hillsboro Invitational
HILLSBORO — Onalaska/Luther finished third out of nine teams with 100 points.
Sophomore Lukas Todd (16-15, 132) and junior Maximus Todd (21-5, 165) both won championships for the Hilltoppers, who were only beaten by Pittsville (113.5) and Wautoma/Wild Rose (105). Lukas Todd won twice by pin, once by medial forfeit and once by technical fall, while Maximus Todd beat Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Brady Abitz (26-6) 7-2 in his final.
Mason Thorson (7-11, 150/157), Greg Dunnum (20-10, 215) and Mason Richardson (17-7, 285) both placed second for Onalaska/Luther.
GIRLS
Westby Invitational
WESTBY — Arcadia sophomore Kalyce Sobotta (20-3) won at 132 with four pins and a major decision.
Sobotta pinned Verona’s Katherine Rawlins (13-13) in 1:50 to qualify for the championship bout, then majored Merrill’s Adison Clark (19-2) 10-2 for the title.
Warrior Women’s Challenge
WAUSAU — Senior Natalie Markos (9-17) placed second in the 145 Silver bracket by pinning her way to the finals. Markos pinned Cameron’s Madison Huffman in 5:04, DeForest’s Lily Radl in 54 seconds and Winneconne’s Jayden Mahlke in 3:01 before dropping the championship bout.
Sophomore Kaytlynn Lambries (20-4) was third at 107 Gold with two pins. She followed up a semifinal loss with an 11-2 major decision over Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights’ Margaret Barrett (9-3).
Kayleen Bazan (11-8) was third at 120 Silver, Alexis Schauf (6-8) fourth at 107 Silver and Aubrey Hauser (5-5) fifth at 100 Silver.
