Tuesday girls basketball report: Holmen gets off to quick second-half start in nonconference win

EAU CLAIRE — The Holmen High School girls basketball team used a solid run through the end of the first half to cut heavily into a large deficit, then scored the first 13 points of the second half on the way to a 64-58 nonconference over host Eau Claire North on Tuesday.

The Vikings (4-6) won for he third time in four games and received a career-high 24 points from senior Danika Rebhahn, who made six 3-pointers and scored eight of the first 13 points of the second half. She has made 15 3-pointers over the past four games.

Junior Charley Casey added 16 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Makenzie Nunemacher 16 points for Holmen, which puts a 1-1 MVC record on the line at Logan on Friday.

Onalaska 51, Sparta 43

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers were outscored in the first half but came back to take down the visiting Spartans.

Sophomore Lauren Pica made 11 of 12 free throws and scored 20 points to lead Onalaska (5-5, 1-1) in its fourth straight victory. The Hilltoppers try to extend that streak to five Friday at Tomah.

Seniors Jenna Gansen and Tatum Walters each made two 3-pointers and added 10 points for Onalaska, which outscored Sparta (6-6, 1-2) by 11 points after halftime.

Luther 53, Viroqua 32

ONALASKA — The Knights (9-2, 5-0) bounced back from a nonconference loss to handle the Blackhawks (3-6, 2-3) for their ninth win in 10 games.

Senior Macie Neumeister made 6 of 12 attempts from the 3-point line and scored 24 points to go with three rebounds and three steals for Luther, which allowed just eight second-half points.

Freshman Brinley Schmitz added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds for the Knights, who made nine 3-pointers.

Central 57, Tomah 41

The second-place RiverHawks (8-3, 2-0) set up Friday’s showdown at first-place Aquinas (8-3, 3-0) by beating the Timberwolves (0-9, 0-3).

Junior Alahnna Simpson scored 31 points to move her season scoring average to 23.9 points per game. Simpson is averaging 27.2 ppg over her past five games and has scored at least 30 in three of those. She also had 12 rebounds and seven steals against Tomah.

Sophomore Ellie Gillitzer added 10 points for Central, which has won five games in a row. She also had four steals, three assists and three rebounds.
