Saturday hockey report: Onalaska/La Crosse co-op holds on to beat Hayward

ONALASKA — The Onalaska/La Crosse co-op boys hockey team used two early goals to take control and scored once in the third period to finish off a 3-2 nonconference victory over Hayward at the OmniCenter on Saturday.

The Hilltoppers (6-7) took a 3-1 lead when Matt Tillman scored with an assist from Jackson Egan at 3 minutes, 50 seconds in the third. Goaltender Parker Tripp did allow one more goal, but he finished with 22 saves.

Jackson Tillman scored an assist from Richie Baker for Onalaska/La Crosse’s first goal, and Baker followed that up by converting on a power play with help from Logan Sauter four minutes later.

Matt Tillman’s goal was his sixth of the season and Sauter’s assist his eighth. Egan now has seven assists.

Wisconsin Rapids 6, West Salem/Bangor 5 (OT)

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (2-8) fought back from a two-goal deficit after one period and had the lead three times before Rapids scored the tying goal late in the third and the winning goal in overtime.

Juniors Aiden Hillyer and Cade Donahue scored two goals each for West Salem/Bangor, which held its last advantage at 5-4 when Donahue scored with assists from Hillyer and Kaleb Kepler at 15:30 in the third period. Rapids scored to tie the game 28 seconds later.

Terryn Boland had two assists for the Panthers, who also received a goal from Nehemiah Schmitz.
