LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School girls wrestling team split a pair of dual meets at The Clash National Duals and placed second in its pool at the La Crosse Center on Saturday.
The Vikings lost a 39-30 decision to Andrew (Ill.) before a bye and 36-35 victory over Hastings (Minn.). Holmen will wrestle in a Division 2 group with St. Michael/Albertville (Minn.) and Central Cass (N.D.) on Saturday.
Pins by Alexa Szak at 136 pounds to open the win over Hastings and Jozie Clark’s pin at 130 to close it were highlights in the victory over Hastings. Szak pinned Audrianna Dahlberg in 4 minutes, 10 seconds to get things off on the right foot, and Collins finished Olivia Levine at 3:06 in a match the Vikings needed by pin to win.
Avalee Euler (170 pounds), Sophia Walter (235), Aini Anderson (100) and Kaytlynn Lambries (106) also won by pin against Hastings.
Szak, Walter, Lambries, Haley Dezelske (112) and Allison Weiss (118) all won matches against Andrew. All of them won by pin.
Aquinas placed sixth and Holmen seventh in their respective eight-team brackets.
The Blugolds lost to Stillwater (Minn.) 41-28, beat Batavia (Ill.) 57-9 and lost to Don Bosco (Iowa) 40-32.
Roger Flege (133, 139), Waylon Hargrove (160, 172), Tyson Martin (215), Lincoln Stanek (107) all won three matches for Aquinas. Stanek had three pins, Martin two pins and a technical fall and Hargrove two pins and a major decision.
The Vikings lost to Shakopee (Minn.) 53-15, lost to Delta () 51-12 and bounced back to beat Caledonia/Houston 57-15.
Rex Lancaster (107, 114) was 3-0 with three pins, and Brock Needham (127), Caleb Eggerichs (133) and Noah Henderson (139) all won twice for Holmen.
Both teams wrestle in placement brackets on Saturday.
