Friday boys basketball report: Becker sparks Blugolds in tournament victory

Junior Logan Becker made three 3-pointers and scored 11 of his team-high 21 points in the second half as the Aquinas High School boys basketball team beat G-E-T 72-59 in the second of two semifinal games of a tournament at the Reinhart Athletic Complex on Friday.

The Blugolds (7-0) held Red Hawks junior Mason Brone scoreless in the first half while building a nine-point lead, then pulled away a bit in the second half to qualify for the championship game against Cambridge at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

Brone, who entered the game averaging 22.3 points per game, scored 10 in the second half to back up senior teammate Jackson Burns’ team-high 21 for G-E-T (3-5). The Red Hawks play Maple Northwestern for third place on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Calvin Bahr added 18 points and senior guard Trey Bahr 17 for Aquinas. Calvin Bahr scored nine points in each half, and Trey Bahr had none of his in the first half.

Waunakee Tournament

Onalaska 64, Appleton East 32

WAUNAKEE — Junior Ian Kowal scored a game-high 19 points for the Hilltoppers (5-2), who play Waunakee in the championship game at 4:05 p.m. Saturday.

Senior Jack Smith added 11 points, and Brendan Chenault and Broden Steiner eight each for Onalaska, which snapped a two-game losing streak.

Rice Lake Tournament

Tomah 67, Cumberland 60

RICE LAKE — Sophomore Quinn Gerke scored 30 points as the Timberwolves (3-2) in their second straight victory.

Gerke made three 3-pointers and hit 13 of 16 attempted free throws. He scored 16 of his points in the second half and pushed his per-game scoring average to 22.8 points for the season.

Junior Michael Zastoupil added 10 points for Tomah, which plays Rice Lake (6-0) in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

JustAGame Mueller Classic

Reedsburg 78, Bangor 63

WISCONSIN DELLS — The Cardinals (2-5) were led by senior Eli Tucker’s 20 points, while Hayden Massman and Brody Edwards added 14 and 13, respectively, in a loss at JustAGame Fieldhouse.

Nonconference

Arcadia 59, Stanley-Boyd 39

ARCADIA — The Raiders (4-4) used balanced scoring with five players between eight and 13 points to snap a two-game losing streak and get back on the winning track.

Senior Kaiden Rotering led the way with 13, and senior Ted Teske added 10. Rotering scored 11 of his in the first half and Teske eight of his in the second.

Carter Wegman added nine and both Max Blaschko and Deklyn Grzadzielewski contributed eight.
