DECOTAH, Iowa — The Caledonia High School boys basketball team used a big putback by Garrett Konz for a key basket in what became a 64-61 nonconference victory over Waverly-Shell Rock at Luther College on Saturday.
The Warriors (6-1) won their fourth game in a row when Konz scored off the offensive rebound to force Waverly-Shell Rock to start fouling as the game neared completion. Caledonia didn’t make all of the free throws that produced — coach Brad King said the Warriors missed five of their last six attempts — but they held on to beat a team that won 22 games last season.
Caledonia, which led 36-26 at halftime and 50-38 after three quarters, was led by Konz’s 19 points. Grant King added 14 and Reid Klug 13 for the Warriors.

RIVER FALLS — The Panthers (5-1) lost for the first time this season to a Division1 team at UW-River Falls.
West Salem made just five 3-pointers and was in a 17-point hole by halftime. The Panthers cut the deficit to four points with about 3 minutes remaining but couldn’t get any closer.
Senior Nathan Karr made two of West Salem’s 3-pointers and scored a team-high 26 points. Nathan Dillaber added 10 points, Drew McConkey nine and Landon Michlig eight for the Panthers, who are playing without an injured Kyle Hehli.
