Central High School junior Alahnna Simpson had a big night to lead the RiverHawks to a 57-15 MVC girls basketball victory over Sparta at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium on Friday.
Simpson, a 6-foot guard, went off for 40 points as Central (4-3, 1-0) started their conference season with a victory. Simpson scored 25 points in the first half and 15 in the second as the RiverHawks posted their third win in the last four games.
The Spartans (3-5, 1-1) were held to seven first-half points and trailed 36-7 heading to the second half in their first conference loss.
Ellie Gillitzer added eight points for Central, and freshman teammate Sophie Ackerman scored her first varsity points with a 3-pointer in the first half.
Logan 31, Tomah 29
Junior Lydia Mason scored at the buzzer to give the Rangers (2-6, 1-2) their first conference win of the season at the Steve Hole Field House.
Mason scored a team-high 16 points for Logan, which also received 10 points from sophomore Lilly Dettwiler.
Logan snapped a four-game losing streak since a win over G-E-T. The Timberwolves (0-7, 0-2) lost their 10th straight game dating back to last season.
Onalaska Luther 72, Black River Falls 29
BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Knights (6-1, 4-0) took a half-game lead over second-place West Salem in the Coulee Conference with a one-sided victory over the Tigers (3-5, 2-3).
Luther freshman Cara Unke made 9 of 17 shots and pulled down 10 rebounds to go with 18 points for a double-double. She also had five steals. Senior Allie Zittel added four 3-pointers and six of the Knights’ 23 steals on her way to 16 points.
Senior Macie Neumeister added 12 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Knights in their sixth straight victory. Luther plays at Mondovi on Dec. 30.
Arcadia 67, G-E-T 14
GALESVILLE — Sophomore Tatum Drazkowski and Madison Grotjahn combined for 36 points as the Raiders (6-3, 3-2) in their second win in a row. Drazkowski had 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half, and Grotjahn scored 13 of her 17 before halftime. Grotjahn also made two of Arcadia’s eight 3-pointers.
The Raiders had nine players score at least one point.
The Red Hawks (0-9, 0-4) scored 10 of their points in the second half.
Bangor 71, Hillsboro 28
BANGOR — The Cardinals (7-2, 4-0) maintained a one-game lead in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and had a 25-point lead going to halftime.
Sophomore Kiera Cavadini scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the first half for Bangor, which had nine players score in its third straight victory. Kennedy Hamilton added 12 points and Anna Fronk 10 as the Cardinals pushed their conference win streak to 33 games.
Junior Alaina Clark scored 12 points for the Tigers (6-3, 2-2), who had won three games in a row.
Cashton 43, Brookwood 30
ONTARIO — The second-place Eagles (6-3, 3-1) had a six-point lead after one half and pulled away in the second half.
Senior Marlee Schroeder scored a team-high 14 points for Cashton, which has won two straight games and three of its past four. Senior Sarah Schroeder added seven points.
The Falcons (4-4, 1-3) were led by junior Reagan Muehlenkamp’s 14 points and Ruby Muehlenkamp’s nine.
Caledonia 74,, Wabasha-Kellogg 17
CALEDONIA — The Warriors (8-0) remained unbeaten and had nine players score against the Falcons.
Seniors Aubrie Klug and Josie Foster led Caledonia with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Foster made three of the Warriors’ five 3-pointers, and Klug added one.
Sienna Augedahl added 12 points for Caledonia, which won its second game of the week and plays Waverly-Shell Rock Iowa) at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa on Saturday.
De Soto 70, La Farge 13
DE SOTO — The Pirates (4-3, 2-2) got back on the winning track after losing two straight games.
Four De Soto players reached double figures in points, and sophomore Kylee Venner led the way with 25. Junior Ella Koch added 17, senior Sascha Doll 14 and sophomore Sylvia Krueger 10.
Necedah 41, Royall 39
NECEDAH — The Cardinals (4-4, 2-2) outlasted the Panthers (2-5, 1-3) by outscoring them by eight points in the second half.
Senior Addisyn Schumer scored 13 points and senior Hannah Hawkins 10 for Necedah, while Layla Marty’s 11 points led Royall.
