Friday boys basketball report: Onalaska Luther, Aquinas remain unbeaten

ONALASKA — The Onalaska Luther High School boys basketball team wasted little time in pouncing on Prairie du Chien in a nonconference game Friday night.

The Knights scored early and often and rebounded missed shot after missed shot to kickstart their transition game on the way to a 72-45 victory.

Senior guard Synclair Byus made 7 of 11 shots on his way to a game-high 19 points as Luther (6-0) ran its season-opening winning streak to six games.

The Knights made 61 percent of their shots and converted on 22 of 30 (73 percent) inside the 3-point line to take care of the Blackhawks (0-5), who scored just 15 points in the first half.

Senior Will Huelskamp added 13 points and Jackson Kendall nine after making all three of his field goals and both of his free throws. Brody Greeno also had six points, 10 boards and three steals for Luther.

Prairie du Chien was led by Cayden Sutter’s 13 points and Brady Lenzendorf’s 12.

Aquinas 73, Arcadia 43

ARCADIA — The Blugolds (6-0) had nine players score and were up by 24 points at the end of the first half at the Wanek Center.

Senior Brayden Young made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points for Aquinas, which next plays G-E-T in the first round of a holiday tournament at the Reinhart Athletic Complex on Dec. 27. Junior Logan Becker added 19 points for the Blugolds, who have won their past two games by a combined 97 points.

Talon Reinhart added nine points and Calvin Bahr eight for Aquinas.

Arcadia (3-4) was led by senior Kaiden Rotering’s 14 points and received nine more from freshman Deklyn Grzadzielewski.

Sparta 68, G-E-T 57

SPARTA — The Spartans (5-2) won their second straight game and for the fourth time in five in a game they led 33-27 at the half.

Senior Gavin Rhead scored a game-high 26 points for Sparta, and Grant Geier added 12. The Red Hawks (3-4) were led by junior Mason Brone’s 19 points and Brecken Ebersold’s 13.

Hillsboro 48, Bangor 43

BANGOR — The Tigers first-place (5-0, 3-0) used a 24-point performance from junior Miles Ravenscroft to beat the Cardinals (2-1, 2-4).

Junior Brody Edwards scored 12 points to lead Bangor, which outscored in each half. Junior Hayden Massman added nine for the Cardinals.

Caledonia 70, Wabasha-Kellogg 33

WABASHA — The Warriors (5-1, 3-0) won their third game in a row and were led by senior Mason King’s 19 points.

Seniors Garrett Konz and Reid Klug added 15 and nine points, respectively, for Caledonia.
