ARCADIA — The Arcadia High School girls basketball team used good 3-point shooting early and made enough free throws late for a 52-49 nonconference victory over visiting Central on Monday.
The Raiders (5-3) successfully ended a two-game losing streak by outscoring the RiverHawks (3-3) by making six first-half 3-pointers and six second-half free throws.
Sophomore Tatum Drazkowski made two 3s in the first half and finished with a team-high 18 points for Arcadia, which had three players in double figures. Joselyn Lockington added 11 points and Justine Sonsalla 10 for the Raiders.
Sonsalla made three 3s and scored all of her points in the first half.
Junior Alahnna Simpson scored a game-high 19 points for Central, and senior Zaya Whitaker added 15. Simpson scored 11 points in the first half, which ended with Arcadia on top 33-28.
Arcadia coach Evan Pagel praised his team’s early perimeter shooting and said the numbers posted by Simpson and Whitaker would have been higher without the defense Drazkowski and Lockington played on them.
