WAUNAKEE — The Holmen High School boys wrestling team crowned a pair of individual champions at the Waunakee Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Rex Lancaster won at 113 pounds, and senior Turner Campbell prevailed in the 132-pound bracket for the Vikings.
Lancaster (9-1) won three of his five matches by technical fall and another by pin. He finished his day by getting the fall on Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights’ Matthew Tesch in 36 seconds and posted an impressive 4-1 victory over Waunakee’s Brett Farrell (10-1).
Campbell (10-0) received a bye in the first round before pinning the next four opponents sent his way. Campbell needed just 20 seconds to finish Cambridge’s Mason Sonnenberg (9-2) in the championship match.
The Vikings also received runner-up finishes from Brock Needham (8-2, 126 pounds), Noah Henderson (9-1, 138), Colin Griffin (9-1, 157) and Jonathon Lamprich (9-1, 165).
Duals in the Dells
WISCONSIN DELLS — Aquinas placed fifth and beat Prairie du Chien 46-20 in its placement match.
The Blugolds won four of five duals and dropped a 37-35 decision to Coleman in the quarterfinals.
Lincoln Stanek (106, 113), Roger Flege (132, 138), Trevor Paulson (157) and Tyson Martin (215) all went 5-0 for Aquinas.
Martin posted the big in of the day when he beat Prairie du Chien’s Blake Thiry 11-1 in their fifth-place dual.
La Crosse Invitational
Arcadia placed third with a score of 344 in a seven-team tournament to lead local entrants at Logan.
The Raiders were led by third-place finishes from David Aguilar (4-2) at 165 and Nicolas Esteban (4-3) at 175. Both won three of five matches.
The La Crosse co-op placed sixth as a group and was led by a championship from Jayden Delao (12-0) at 190. Delao won four matches by technical fall before beating Saint Croix Central’s Brock Swenson (8-2) by major decision 19-5.
Calvin Arentz (8-4, 165) added a second-place finish and both Noah Nicholson (5-4, 215) and Collin White (8-4, 285) were third.
Brookwood’s Drew Powell (6-1, 144) and La Crescent-Hokah’s Henry Dohnalik (10-2, 150) both placed second.
Tomah Scramble
TOMAH — Tomah placed third (360.5) in an 18-team field and had individual champions in Blake Champlin (10-1, 106) and Cameron Finch (12-0, 150).
Finch had a first-round bye before pinning three opponents and winning the championship match via medial forfeit. All three of Finch’s pins came in the first period.
Champlin won by pin, technical fall, major decision and decision to claim his title. He beat Regis/Altoona’s Dreyton Kren 10-6 in the final round.
Parker Mlsna (10-1) won for Cashton with a technical fall and three pins at 126 and Seth Greeno (12-0) used the same outcomes to win at 175.
Sparta’s Devon Lietzau (12-0) handed Marathon’s Swayne Stencil (11-1) his first loss on the way to a bracket win at 144.
Husky Invitational
EAU CLAIRE — West Salem/Bangor was ninth out of 30 teams and was led by a second-place finish by junior Teghan Moore (9-1), who had a pair of technical falls and handed St. Michael/Albertville’s Jackson Thorn (7-1) an 11-4 defeat in the semifinal round.
