SPARTA — The Sparta High School girls basketball team had a rough first half, and that led to a 58-40 nonconference loss to visiting Westfield on Thursday.
The Spartans (2-3) lost their second straight game and allowed 37 first-half points to face a 17-point deficit entering the second half. Senior Kyle Burton made 6 of 10 free throws and scored a team-high 12 points for Sparta.
Junior Elexa Jones added nine points, and junior Lily Seifert made two 3-pointers and scored eight for the Spartans.
